On 9 November 2023, the OSCE Academy hosted a launch event for the book “Researching Central Asia: Navigating Positionality in the Field”. This open-access book was published under the framework of the SpringerBriefs in Political Science (BRIEFSPOLITICAL). The editorial team of the book and contributors from both Central Asia and Western countries engaged in a conversation about conducting research in Central Asia. The speakers discussed the struggles and challenges researchers face based on factors such as race, gender, institutional affiliation, languages spoken, and various other aspects of their identity. During the events, they reflected on how researchers' subjectivity and positionality shape their reception in the region, subsequently influencing how they write about and disseminate their research.
