OSCE launches course on the "Crime Prevention and Culture of Lawfulness" curriculum in Bishkek

22 June, 2023

On 20-22 June 2023, the OSCE Transnational Threats Department (TNTD) and the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) have developed the curriculum and delivered the course in co-operation with the OSCE Academy in Bishkek and the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan.

The curriculum aims to equip university students in Kyrgyzstan with knowledge about the risks and consequences of criminal behavior, including organized crime, corruption, and illegal drug use.

38 professors from 18 universities across Kyrgyzstan got a chance to enhance their knowledge on organized crime, corruption, and illegal drug use, as well as to learn effective teaching methodologies to further strengthen students’ resilience and reduce their likelihood of engaging in illegal and corrupt activities.

The curriculum is set to be launched during the new 2023/2024 academic year in 18 universities across Kyrgyzstan, and will be available to over 1,000 students. It is part of the OSCE-wide multi-year project: “Enhancing youth crime and drug use prevention through education on legality and awareness campaigns addressing threats of organized crime and corruption”, which is funded by Germany and Poland. Other donors supporting this project are Andorra and Italy.
