President of the Federal Republic of Germany visits the OSCE Academy in Bishkek

On 22 June 2023, H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany, accompanied by a Delegation, visited the OSCE Academy as part of his official trip to the Kyrgyz Republic. During the visit, the Federal President had a meeting with the group of MA students and discussed a wide range of global issues and developments. The meeting was moderated by Dr. Anja Mihr, DAAD Associate Professor at the OSCE Academy.

This marked the Federal President’s third visit to the OSCE Academy. The first visit was in 2006 when H.E. Steinmeier served as the Foreign Minister, and the second visit was in 2016 in the capacity of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office. During the last visit, two agreements significant for the OSCE Academy were signed:
1. The Memorandum of Understanding between the OSCE and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on further activity of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. By signing the Memorandum of Understanding the Kyrgyz Republic and the OSCE recognized the Academy as a unique centre of education, professional training, research, and the development of dialogue at the regional and inter-state levels in Central Asia.
2. Building use Agreement between the Department of State Buildings under the Administrative Board of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and the OSCE Academy in Bishkek.
