OSCE Academy’s Project and Training Specialist participated in the Meeting of the Networks for Women Professionals

On 18-20 October 2023, Dr. Almakan Orozobekova, the OSCE Academy’s Project and Training Specialist participated in the meeting of the Networks for Women Professionals in Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization that Lead to Terrorism held in Vienna. The meeting was organized under a large-scale, multi-year project titled: “WIN for Women and Men – Strengthening Comprehensive Security through Innovating and Networking for Gender Equality” by the OSCE Secretariat Office of the Secretary General’s Gender Issues Programme in co-operation with the OSCE Secretariat Transnational Threats Department’s Action against Terrorism Unit. Dr. Orozobekova contributed to the sessions by sharing her expertise on the issues related to rehabilitation and reintegration of the Central Asian returnees from conflict zones. The Network members from the Central Asian countries established a Coordination Council that will focus on organizational aspects, planning, developing programs, and setting up meetings of the Network and Dr. Orozobekova has been selected as a member of the Coordination Council for 2024.

Previously, Dr. Orozobekova had worked for the OSCE SMM to Ukraine and the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, Research Group “How ‘Terrorists’ Learn” in Germany. She is a graduate of the International University of Central Asia, OSCE Academy, Geneva Centre for Security Policy, University of Geneva, and Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg where she gained BA, MA, MAS, and PhD degrees with high honours.
