OSCE Academy Post-Doc Research Fellow has been accepted for a Harvard University Fellowship at Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies

Dr. Rahat Sabyrbekov, OSCE Academy Post-Doc Research Fellow, has been accepted for a Fellowship at Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University. Dr. Sabyrbekov will be a Fellow from September 1, 2023, through May 31, 2024.

Environmental and ecological economics applied to the field of economic development and climate change are the primary interests of Dr. Rahat Sabyrbekov. Dr. Sabyrbekov plans to contribute to a better understanding of the interaction in these fields and development of optimal policy options. Eurasia is one the largest exporters of fossil fuel in the world and it is heavily dependent on the extraction of hydrocarbons. At the same time the world has started implementation of various measures to limit the consumption of fossil fuels within the national climate policies and under the umbrella of the international climate treaties. The research project will investigate the impact of climate policies on Eurasia. What will be the implications of the international climate initiatives on the region? Can the region implement effective decarbonization strategies? Which sectors will require the largest efforts to mitigate the impact? Who will be most affected by the climate policy? What policy measures changes are necessary? The answers to these questions elicit new research avenues and inform the policy.
