  • OSCE Enhances Capacity of Young People from Central Asia, Afghanistan and Mongolia on Security Sector Governance (SSG) and Reform (R), and Safety of Journalists

    From 8 to 13 June 2025, the OSCE Academy alumni and students participated in the summer school “OSCE-DCAF Summer School on SSG/R at the OSCE Academy - Linking SSG/R, Human Security and the Safety of Journalists,” co-organized by the OSCE Secretariat’s Conflict Prevention Centre (CPC) and the Office of the Secretary General (OSG), together with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media (RFoM), the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF). This year the School was held in Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan.

  • OSCE Academy Alumni Gather for the 6th Reunion

    Between 14 and 15 June, the OSCE Academy hosted its 6th triannual Alumni Reunion, bringing overall 150 people, including more than a hundred graduates, distinguished guests, experts, faculty, staff and current MA students to strengthen the community and network of the Academy. The event was officially opened with a speech by Dr. Pal Dunay, Director of the OSCE Academy, using a quote from Heraclitus of Ephesus: “You can’t step into the same river twice,” acknowledging the significant change and growth of the OSCE Academy, now offering three Master’s programmes and a Bachelor’s programme, alongside an expanding staff and faculty members and a community of over 700 alumni. Dr. Dunay expressed gratitude to the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek (POiB), led by H.E. Ambassador Alexey Rogov, Head of the OSCE POiB and Chairman of the OSCE Academy’s Board of Trustees, as well as to the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), the Global Campus of Human Rights, donors, partners, and OSCE participating states for their invaluable support that helps sustain the Academy’s mission of high-quality education, research, executive training, and regional development.

  • Alumni Chapter Meetings Held in Astana, Tashkent, and Dushanbe

    In mid-April 2025, the OSCE Academy conducted Alumni Chapter meetings in Astana, Tashkent, and Dushanbe. Overall, 36 graduates residing in three Central Asian capitals gathered for meetings with the Academy’s representatives.

  • Alumni residing in Astana and Vienna met at Chapter Meetings

    In the end of May, the OSCE Academy organized two Alumni chapter meetings – in Astana and Vienna. During the meetings alumni were briefed about the latest developments at the OSCE Academy and new activities that were launched, as well as had a chance to meet their fellow from different years and expand their network.

  • Virtual Alumni Conference “The COVID-19 Crisis and its Impact on Post-Soviet Central Asia”

    On 18-20 November, the OSCE Academy in Bishkek (OSCE AiB) held its biennial Alumni Conference themed ‘The COVID-19 Crisis and its Impact on Post-Soviet Central Asia’. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was conducted in a virtual format and was merged with the joint expert project of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek and the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS).

  • 4th Alumni Reunion Brings Together over 100 Graduates of the Academy and Builds Invaluable Links between the Generations

    On 7-8 September 2019, the OSCE Academy in Bishkek welcomed over 100 alumni of its MA Programmes from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as from the countries across the region, including Afghanistan, Russia, Macedonia and Georgia, for the 4th Alumni Reunion.

  • First European Alumni Chapter Meeting held in Vienna

    On 5 June the first European Alumni Chapter Meeting organized by the OSCE Academy and the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek was held at the OSCE Secretariat in Vienna, Austria. The meeting gathered nine alumni residing in Europe for the conference “Brain Drain or Brain Gain? Education, Migration and Development in Central Asia.”

  • Afghan Alumni Chapter meets in Kabul

    On 24 May the first Alumi Chapter meeting was held in Kabul, gathering 16 graduates of both MA Programmes. Academy Professor Dr. Payam Foroughi met graduates to discuss the current regional issues.

  • Alumni in Dushanbe met to discuss Security Issues in the Region

    On 30 April the OSCE Academy alumni in Tajikistan met for the annual Chapter Meeting. This year Dr. Christian Bleuer met graduates in Dushanbe and presented the topic: "Central Asia's Role in the International Security System."

  • Alumni and Experts Meet to Discuss the Gender Issues in Central Asia

    On 15-16 February the OSCE Academy organized a workshop dedicated to “Gender Issues in Central Asia” for its alumni and external guests. The two-day workshop gathered about 40 participants who aimed at identifying contemporary problems related to gender issues in politics and security, in the economic sphere and in the social and legal fields in the region.
