Academy Alumna presents at the OSCE Webinar on COVID-19 and Youth

On 22 May Ms. Elvira Kalmurzaeva, alumna of 2015 and currently the Executive Director at the International Debate Education Association (IDEA) Central Asia, discussed the impact of COVID-19 crisis on youth of Kyrgyzstan and how young people tackle it at the webinar on “The Covid-19 Generation: How Youth Can Help Strengthen Security in the Current Crisis” organized jointly by the Albanian OSCE Chairmanship and the Secretariat. Ms. Kalmurzaeva discussed issues related to young people’s access to education and employment opportunities during the current crisis. As head of IDEA Central Asia, Ms. Kalmurzaeva shared her experience of engaging youth in activities aimed at dealing with COVID-19 and summarized the main challenges and lessons learned while working with youth.   

This webinar was organized to foster the intergenerational dialogue among young people, decision-makers, experts, and OSCE staff to deepen the understanding of the specific needs and potential contributions of youth in the current crisis. It explored the role that young people could play in addressing the security challenges arising from the pandemic, and promoted reflection on how to include youth perspectives in long-term responses to COVID-19.
