15 October, 2019

On 11 October the OSCE Academy organized the Opening of the Exhibition on 30 Years of Peaceful Transition in Germany at the National Library named after A. Osmonov. The Exhibition was held with the support of the German Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany in the light of the 30th anniversary of the peaceful revolution in Germany in 1989, which transformed the society and unified the country.

The Exhibition was opened by the German Ambassador H.E. Monika Iwersen, the Director of the National Library Ms. Bakashova Zhyldyz Kemelovna, and the Director of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek Dr. Alexander Wolters.

The keynote speech and overview over 30 Years of Peaceful Revolution in East Germany after the Fall of the Wall was given by Dr. Anna Kaminsky, Director of the German Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany. She presented the chronological developments of the beginning of the peaceful transition from 1989 till the present and the role of these developments in changing the global political settings. After the presentation the guests were interested in how ordinary people felt the transition in their everyday life and got the chance to listen to the views and experiences of two generations of German citizens, born before and after the Fall of Berlin Wall, present at the event. Further the discussion focused on the perception of differences between the East and West.

The Exhibit will be available till the end of November 2019 at the National Library named after A. Osmonov 2nd building (st. Ogonbaeva 242), in the German Reading room.
