Academy’s Representative Presented at the Regional Conference on “Women’s Economic Inclusion: From Theory to Practice” in Kabul, Afghanistan

From 16 till 17 December Ms. Svetlana Dzardanova, Programme Manager of the MA Programme in Politics and Security, presented at the Regional Conference on “Women’s Economic Inclusion: From Theory to Practice” in Kabul. The conference was organized by the Women’s Center (TWC) at the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF). Ms. Dzardanova presented “The Comparative Analysis of the Legal Gender Related Framework in Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan: How National Laws and International Conventions Work in Practice” at the panel on Gender Inclusive Trade and Industrialization. Two more panels covered topics related to Promoting Economic Empowerment of Women in the Region and Role of Institution in Fostering Women Entrepreneurship.

The keynote speaker for the event was His Excellency Mustafa Mastoor, Minister of Economy. Minister Mastoor highlighted the importance of women’s economic inclusion and Afghanistan’s academia in understanding and enhancing discourse and research on gender economic inclusion. Other speakers were Dr. Kenneth Holland, President of AUAF and Ms. Samina Ansari, Executive Director of The Women’s Center (TWC). Expert panelists included members of international academic institutions from Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh and India, USA, Singapore, and Afghan government officials. During the panels participants were able to highlight key economic issues faced by women in Afghanistan and in the region, and the progress, challenges, and future of mainstreaming women in the spacious economy of Afghanistan.
