Academy Board of Trustees Meeting


On 5 June the Board of Trustees of the OSCE Academy met in the Hofburg, Vienna, under the chairmanship of the Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, Ambassador Pierre von Arx. Director Dr Alexander Wolters presented on the activities of the Academy conducted and implemented since the last BoT meeting in Fall 2017, including a comprehensive overview of the master programmes, trainings, research & publications, new international partnerships, alumni relations and finances. He also introduced the Annual Report for 2017, which provides detailed information about the Academy’s programmes and achievements in the last year. The Chairperson and the Director highlighted the plans to build up institutional capacities to develop a PhD Programme in Security Studies, as well as eventually opening a third Master Programme, transforming the Academy into a full-fledged graduate institute. In addition, from this year on, the Academy is starting new preparatory courses for the admitted MA students and it will pilot advanced trainings, for example the upcoming Masterclass on “Interviews as Method in the Social Sciences & Humanities.” Director Wolters furthermore informed about recently established educational partnerships, among others with the European University Viadrina, the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI), the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (NUPSPA) and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

Present at the Board of Trustees Meeting were representatives from Finland, Kyrgyzstan, the European Union, the United States, Austria as well as the Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre Ambassador Marcel Peṧko and Program Director of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, Dr Indra Overland.
