British Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan H.E. Robin Ord-Smith gave talk on Brexit to Students of both MA programmes

On 02 March, British Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan H.E. Robin Ord-Smith delivered a guest lecture on the topic of “Britain after Brexit” to the OSCE Academy MA Students. The Ambassador spoke about the referendum of 2016 and discussed the challenges of Great Britain’s withdrawal process as well as the coming adjustments in the UK-EU relations after the Brexit and its negative and positive outcomes. The presentation attracted wide interest among students and resulted in a discussion with the Ambassador in which students addressed the question of the Brexit’s impact on OSCE and the role of intellectuals during the referendum in the UK. Furthermore students wanted to know to which extent the EU can continue to be a model for the Eurasian Economic Union and what Britain’s position is towards the current foreign policy of Russia. Finally students touched upon the role of the Royal Family in the UK politics. The OSCE Academy very much appreciates Ambassador Ord-Smith’s engagement who has been a regular visitor to the institute and to its students.
