Academy Strengthens Cooperation with Donors and Partners

On 22 February a delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. Norwegian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan H.E. Ole Johan Bjørnøy and Norwegian Honorary Consul Ms. Aijan Chynybaeva met alumni to exchange views about the Academy’s Alumni Network activities and its role in furthering the professional and academic development of our alumni. Ms. Helene Sand Andresen from the Section for Russia, Eurasia and regional co-operation of the Norwegian MFA discussed with the administration of the Academy the cooperation with the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, plans to increase research capacities and the admission to the MA Programmes.

This occasion was also used to sign the Memorandum of Cooperation and Collaboration between the Regional Office of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) in Central Asia, represented by the Director Mr. Abahon Sultonazarov and the OSCE Academy. The Memorandum suggests a cooperation in performing joint activities within the project “Giving voice, driving change – from the borderland to the steppes” funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs between January 2018 – December 2020. Some of the planned activities are: online meetings; training for journalists and early career analysts; as well as internship opportunities for  Academy’s MA students in IWPR offices in Bishkek and Dushanbe. It also envisages organizing two field trips to Ukraine and Georgia in 2019 and 2020 for those who passed the journalism training and policy paper writing seminar.
