November 4, 2006. The German Foreign Minister, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the
OSCE
Academy
to meet with the OSCE Academy students of the MA class.
Dr. Steinmeier, who conducted a five days visit to the Central Asian states, was accompanied by members of the German Bundestag and representatives of the media and business. During the discussion at the
OSCE
Academy
, Dr. Steinmeier reflected on the European Union’s foreign policy towards
Central Asia
and called for a stronger European engagement in the region. Dr. Steinmeier also underlined the significant role of the OSCE assisting
Central Asia
in the political, economic and social transition.
The German Foreign Minister later responded to questions by students covering topics such as the current political development in
Kyrgyzstan
, the presidential election in
Tajikistan
and the question of
Kazakhstan
’s bid for the OSCE chairmanship in 2009.
