15 September 2005, A Regional Conference on Applied Research in Higher Education was held at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. The Conference, part of a partnership initiative between international and local partners to develop a Central Asia Applied Research Network, was attended by university faculty and administrators from approximately 20 universities in the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, donor organizations, and business and economics education experts. The Conference was made possible by support from The Eurasia Foundation, OSCE, the OSCE Academy, the Economics Education and Research Consortium (EERC), CARANA Corporation’s Business and Economics Education Project, Regional Education Association (REGENA), USAID, and the government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Applied Research Network will strengthen regional universities’ potential to carry out analytical research products in economics, business and public policy and facilitate a dialogue between research centers, governments, and businesses in order to design and produce effective applied research projects.
